Marketing & Communications Intern

Generation Fearless seeks a dynamic self-starter to support and contribute to the organization’s marketing and communications efforts. This internship is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience working for a small, growing nonprofit organization and take the lead on small projects.

Fully Remote (Organization based in NJ)

Start and end dates are flexible based on the candidate’s schedule, academic, and/or program requirements.

DUTIES:

Reporting directly to the Founder & Executive Director, the Marketing & Communications Intern will support and contribute to the organization’s strategic plan.

 

General duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating both written and visual content for various channels, including website, social media, email, and the organization’s newsletter

  • Social media account management, including scheduling posts, monitoring inboxes, and responding to comments and messages for specific campaigns assigned

  • Writing press releases for events and announcements

  • Research and gather content related to the first-generation experience (first-generation immigrant, college student, professional, entrepreneur, and investor)

  • Write and edit compelling stories that shed light on the lived experience of first-generation women

  • Create promotional materials for upcoming events and community outreach

  • All other duties as assigned

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING:

  • Overall Responsibility

    • Reporting directly to the Founder & Executive Director, the Marketing & Communications Intern will support and contribute to the organization’s strategic plan

  • Content Collection

    • Research and gather content related to the first-generation experience (first-generation immigrant, college student, professional, entrepreneur, and investor)

  • Content Production

    • Creating both written and visual content for various channels, including website, social media, email, and the organization’s newsletter

    • Write and edit compelling stories that shed light on the lived experience of first-generation women

    • Create promotional materials for upcoming events and community outreach

    •  Social media account management, including scheduling posts, monitoring inboxes, and responding to comments and messages for specific campaigns assigned

    • Writing press releases for events and announcements

  • Administrative Assistance

    • All other duties as assigned

 

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong creative writing skills – you’re able to quickly and concisely string together pieces of information to form a cohesive and impactful narrative

  • Enthusiasm for creative work – you’re an innovative, inquisitive, problem-solver who takes initiative and is eager to learn, try new things, and share ideas

  • The ability to give and receive constructive and actionable feedback

  • Demonstrable experience in using Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, TickTock, and Instagram to publish content

  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to work independently to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, including the capacity to self-motivate and build structure where none exists

  • The capacity to remain flexible and adaptable

  • Solutions-oriented mindset – you’re not easily discouraged and enjoy unraveling complex challenges

  • Proficiency in MS 365 – Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Excel

  • Proficiency in Google Suite – Drive, Gmail, Google Meet, Docs, Sheets, Forms, Slides

 

BONUS SKILLS:

  • Graphic design experience and familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite and/or other design tools

  • Copywriting experience

  • Knowledge of current digital trends and best practices

  • Video and photography skills (shooting, editing, or both!)

  • Previous marketing/communications and/or nonprofit experience
